The purpose of this website is to show how infections cause obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
My name is Russ Farris and I began to study infections and heart disease after my heart attack in 1998. Later I learned that some of the germs linked to heart attacks were also linked to obesity and diabetes.
The drawing shows roughly what I had learned by the middle of 1999.

In 2002 I learned that Dr. Per Mårin was studying related topics. I asked him if he would like to help me write a book, and he agreed. The result was The Potbelly Syndrome: How Common Germs Cause Obesity, Diabetes, and Heart Disease. The book is available from libraries, bookstores, and online booksellers such as Amazon.com.

About this website. This website  contains a mix of ideas from (a) The Potbelly Syndrome, (b) new material that I've found since the book went to press in 2005, and (c) early versions of materials I'm putting in my next book.
Links on the "tree" at the left lead to more information about infections, cortisol, and the diseases they cause. To print a page (frame) without printing the tree, click on the page before printing.
